71 Billion Reasons the Gaza Deal Isn’t Done Yet

For 1.9 million displaced Gazans: a ceasefire in name, a reconstruction plan on paper, and a political process both main parties are treating as leverage rather than a lifeline.

The reconstruction bill is $71 billion. The pledges so far are $17 billion. Hamas offering police rifles sounds like progress. It is not. The disarmament plan requires heavy weapons, rockets, and tunnel maps. And even if Hamas eventually moves, multiple diplomats say Israel will not pull its troops back during an election year.
