The Question That Changed Everything
In 2017, a Turkish television crew was filming in a rural village in northern Ghana using drone camera technology when the device malfunctioned and dropped near a local man’s home.
That man was Al Hassan Abdullah.
He had never seen a drone before.
As the crew searched for the fallen device, they found Abdullah holding it in confusion and curiosity. Looking at the flying machine, he asked them a simple question that would soon travel across the world: “Could you make this a little bigger and take me to Makkah?”
The crew laughed warmly, but the moment stayed with them. Journalist Mucahid Durmaz later shared the interaction online through TRT World, where the clip quickly spread across social media.
For many people watching, the question did not sound foolish. It sounded sincere.
Abdullah was a poor villager who dreamed of performing Hajj but had never imagined he would actually have the chance. He did not understand drone technology. He only saw something flying through the sky and wondered, with complete innocence, whether it could carry him to Islam’s holiest city.
What happened next surprised almost everyone involved.

From A Village In Ghana To Turkiye
As the story gained attention online, it eventually reached Turkish charities and government officials, including then Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu.
Soon, plans were being made to send Abdullah on a fully sponsored Hajj journey.
Months after the viral moment, Abdullah boarded a plane from Accra and arrived in Istanbul, where he was welcomed by Turkish charity groups connected to Ghanaian outreach efforts. Photos from the trip showed him smiling shyly at airports, surrounded by people who had only known him before as the man who asked about the drone.
For Abdullah, the journey was overwhelming.
Speaking to Anadolu Agency, he later said: “I am grateful to God and I pray for everyone who helped this dream come true.”
He also thanked the Turkish people and said he hoped the experience would strengthen friendship and brotherhood between Muslims.

A Story Bigger Than The Drone
A drone fell from the sky into a small Ghanaian village. A man picked it up and asked if it could take him to the Kaaba. He did not ask for fame. He did not ask for money. He asked to reach Makkah. Against all odds, the world answered him.
