According to US officials, the gunfire erupted near a security checkpoint outside the main ballroom where hundreds of guests had gathered for the gala. Trump, Vice President JD Vance, Cabinet members, journalists, and invited guests were all inside the venue when security teams moved swiftly to lock down the area.
