A soldier bet on a raid he helped plan. Someone may have rigged the weather in Paris. And fifty brand new accounts cashed out right before a Trump announcement. Pick your scandal.
US Army Master Sergeant Gannon Ken Van Dyke was part of the special forces team that planned and executed Operation Absolute Resolve, the classified raid that captured Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro in January. He signed a nondisclosure agreement promising never to divulge classified information about the operation. Then he opened a Polymarket account and placed 13 bets totalling $33,000, all of them wagering Maduro would be out of power by January 31. He walked away with $409,000. When journalists started asking questions about suspiciously timed bets, he tried to delete his account and change his registered email. The Department of Justice caught him anyway. It is the first time in US history that the Commodity Futures Trading Commission has filed insider trading charges connected to a prediction market.
Then there is Paris. French police are investigating whether someone physically tampered with a weather monitoring device at Charles de Gaulle Airport after a Polymarket trader made thousands of dollars off a suspicious temperature spike. Someone did not just bet on inside information. They may have gone out and manufactured the outcome themselves. That is a different level of brazen entirely.
On April 7, at least 50 brand new Polymarket accounts placed large bets that the US and Iran were about to agree to a ceasefire. Minutes later Trump announced exactly that on Truth Social. Those accounts generated hundreds of thousands of dollars in profit in hours. The White House was forced to send an internal memo warning its own staff that betting on classified information is illegal.
And it goes much deeper. Researchers published findings in late March showing $143 million had been earned on Polymarket between February 2024 and February 2026 using insider information. They flagged over 200,000 suspicious bets. That is not a glitch. That is the system working exactly as some people intended it to.
Now consider who is sitting at the centre of all of this. Donald Trump Jr. has a financial stake in Polymarket. He also serves as an adviser to Kalshi, its main competitor. This week Kalshi fined and suspended three political candidates caught betting on their own races. One refused to settle and was hit with a fine exceeding $6,000. And separately, the Trump Organization is currently building its own prediction market called Truth Predict. The president’s family is not just adjacent to this industry. They are building it, investing in it and sitting at the top of it.
When asked about the soldier, Trump said it was like Pete Rose betting on his own team. He said the whole world has become a casino. What he did not say is that his family owns a piece of it.
